This works in both directions! The oceans store much of the heat we produce through climate change. Also around a third of all the greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide mainly) we emit is stored in the ocean. This reduces the impacts of climate change.
However climate change also puts marine life at risk. We often refer to this as the oceans “warming up, turning sour and losing breath” because climate change causes the oceans to warm up, become more acidic, and contain less oxygen (which many marine organisms need to breathe – just like us).
