• Question: Once you work out which bacteria cause sicknesses, are you going to use your research to help the medical industry (like helping working out how to cure the sickness and why it is caused)?

In my role, if I identify any harmful bacteria in the water I use my findings to inform public health who will ensure that the water is no longer supplied to houses until it is treated. On rare occasions I can team up with other researchers and assist them to identify harmful bacteria which they then use to help work out how to treat illnesses. Sometimes if there is a high level of harmful bacteria in swimming pools we can let the centre know and they can treat the water with higher levels of chemicals to make it safe
