I don’t think there is much in my job that I don’t like, if I had to pick something it would be working the times I need to work nightshift or on Christmas day. Due to water being so important, my lab is open every day of the year and we test water everyday
I guess as with any job there is always the risk of things becoming routine, of losing that spark. Events like “I’m a scientist get me out of here” really help me seeing again how lucky I am to be doing this job. My job is very varied there are times of pressure, time of relative calm, times where you are just responding to other peoples requests , and times of experimental “emergencies” (fast problem solving skills required: think “Hunger games”!). And times to retreat in the office (or even at home) to try and write papers (then you are just at war with yourself, as with all creative job).
I do not like big headed people, which are often found in this job (but not exclusively), but I try to ignore them and focus on the many humble and lovely people you get to meet. Some of the humblest people I met have won a Nobel prize…. The more you know, the more you know that you don’t know and all that….
