If it is something you are really interested in and passionate about then yes. It can be hard work with long hours, so a clear goal and motivation needs to be strong. However, it gives you the opportunity to change the world… which is quite exciting I think! A real-life superhero maybe… 🙂

It can be great fun Eve! There is so much we don’t know and so much about the world to discover. Find something you’re passionate about and go with it! It doesn’t;t have to be science 🙂

You don’t really know you are becoming a scientist before… you actually are one! Life is unpredictable, but a passion for science never disappoints you, even if it will just be your hobby. So read about what interests you and explore different careers through voluntary work (or summer jobs)!

I think there is always a need for scientist! But I wouldn’t do it just to do it! You have to find something that not only interests you, but that you are good at. If not it will always feel like work! Having say that, I think that science has a nice selection of paths that can be taken (just look at the different and fun things the scientists on here do), which is nice when it is time to find a job! Plus there is a lot of really neat things happening in science!

I would encourage you to do whatever job would make you happy. On average, with all those hours together, people spend 13 full years of their life working. It should be a job you enjoy (not one your parents or friends are happy for you to have, but one you enjoy having). And also, anyone can change jobs whenever- you’re not stuck doing the same thing your whole life. So, yes, I would encourage people to take a job of science but no more than I would encourage people to take a job as a hairdresser or lawyer or mechanic or anything else. What I would say though is that it’s easier to get a degree when you’re younger and used to learning, have more time and less commitments so I would encourage people to do a degree. Plus it’s fun and an adventure!

I would only encourage people to take a job in science if it is something they are interested in. Obviously I would like everyone to enjoy and appreciate science a bit more so I try to engage with people and make science a bit more fun. that way they get interested in it themselves rather than me forcing my opinion on someone. but if science is something you are considering then def look up different jobs and try get some work experience to see what its really like after all the hard work studying.
